I volunteered a couple hours, twice a week, for a couple weeks at the University of Delaware botanic gardens. I met a fabulously interesting group of women in their 50's and older who taught me a thing or two about horticulture. Mostly I spent the time pulling weeds in the hot sun and re-potting plants in the greenhouse. It was gorgeously rewarding and the mindless work was soothing for any stress I was feeling. I started to realize that volunteering is the absolute best way to learn a skill while helping give back to the community and creating a network along the way.
